PGACCESS STRATEGY IN THE EVE OF POSTGRESQL 7.3

1. pgaccess 0.98.8 beta 1
-------------------------

As the new policy of PostgreSQL is to keep away everything that is not
away*, the things that are kept away should increase their
aggressiveness in order to keep the proximity to the main object.

That is why the pgaccess development team decided to release the
pgaccess 0.98.8 beta 1 on the day when the PostgreSQL 7.3 beta is
expected to be released - Sunday, September the 1st.

And to keep its releases up to the day with all PostgreSQL releases from
now on.

We believe this is the only way the growing pgaccess users community
will have reliable means to stay tuned and be up to date - having based
critical business applications on pgaccess and having trust to base
more.

2. One location
---------------

There is and there is going to be one main location to draw resources
about pgaccess from and this is -

www.pgaccess.org

This is the place where the pgaccess 0.98.8 beta 1 will be made
available tomorrow.

We do not believe in losing focus, and we are not going to support other
locations with pgaccess related information.

We are working on building pgaccess advocacy partnerships, but these are
high level strategic partnerships and not information repositories.

www.pgaccess.org is powered by conceptual wiki technology that, we
believe, is the only way to advance pgaccess in this time of dynamic
shifting of technologies and is the best demonstration of openness known
to the web.

To those who would say that this will result in chaos I would say that
our management is by spirit of leadership and strong vision and not by
dead rules and dead technology.

3. One dedication
-----------------

pgaccess has one focus and this is - becoming the best GUI and
application building environment for PostgreSQL.

If somebody thinks differently - it is time to set your clock right.

4. Details
----------

pgaccess 0.98.8 is the first major release after 0.98.7 - more than 18
months old by now, and is a result of the nice collaboration between
several individuals that started out of the blue about April 2002.

pgaccess 0.98.8 comes with new interface where connections to multiple
PostgreSQL databases will be possible.

Still pure Tcl/Tk, pgaccess has advanced and now it works on more
platforms than before.

Pure Tcl/Tk interface is also made possible by discovering a dedicated
Tcl/Tk icons library.

So far the reports are that pgaccess works fine with PostgreSQL 7.3

During the months till the 7.3 final release in October/November
strategic features will be added to pgaccess.

The new project - pgaccess BusinessExchange also takes off with at least
three known projects where the pgaccess code base is being used or about
to be used as a base for serious useful applications.

5. Expansion is welcome

As the vision behind pgaccess is to make it the best it can be (Bruce) -
we still do not think we have enough.

Business application ideas (check the BusinessExchange on
www.pgaccess.org) and development effort (especially strategic,
dedicated) are welcome.

a way to help you join us.

In the eve of the big success I would like to bring once again one name
in focus - Constantin Teodorescu, who built the first (original)
pgaccess and gave us the tool to find great enjoinment in.
