Parte del problema es que hay gente que _quiere_ que las cosas sean
confusas, pero no voy a meterme en ese lío aquí ni ahora.

Esa es la licencia BSD. La "nueva" licencia BSD, porque hay otra, la
"antigua", que ya no se usa (aunque algunos proyectos todavía la
conservan).
