Hi, I'm new to this list. I'm currently in a project that requires very low cost to build a system. So we have decided to try out those free software available including PostgreSQL.

One concern that I have which worries me the most is running PostgresSQL on a Windows environment. Our client wants to use Windows because they have no experience in maintaining Unix based system. I have set up a test machine on Windows2000 Professional PC. I installed cygwin which came with the latest version of PostgreSQL. While I read the instruction, I've found this following note.

---------------------------------------------------------
NOTE: The following are known issues with PostgreSQL on Windows:

1. Cygwin's AF_UNIX sockets are really implemented as AF_INET sockets
so they are inherently insecure.

2. make check can generate spurious regression test failures due to
overflowing the listen() backlog queue which causes connection
refused errors.
---------------------------------------------------------

So far, I haven't able to find any other known problems, but I also haven't been able to find information about the problems above either. Which leads me to the following questions. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can help finding the answers to them.

1. How likely is it to encounter the above problems?
2. Are there solutions for them?
3. Are there any other problems for running on Windows environment I should worry about?
4. Would choosing Windows2000 Professional or Sever make a difference?
