I'm using PostgreSQL for an online game (www.merchantempires.net)

Running Vacuum analyze locks down the database. Unfortunately,
its a little disconcerting to my players when this occurs.
I've got people playing 24 hours a day.

My question is how can PostgreSQL ever be used for a database
that needs to be available 24/7, if running a vacumm locks
it down?

I like PostgreSQL but if there is no way around this rather
significant feature (bug?) then I will have to switch to
something else.

Please forward replies to: bryan(at)dunsinane(dot)net

Thanks
