Hmm,

I tried (never had cvs access):

mira:~/cvs$ export CVSROOT=:pserver:anoncvs(at)postgresql(dot)org:/usr/local/cvsroot
mira:~/cvs$ cvs login
(Logging in to anoncvs(at)postgresql(dot)org)
CVS password:
cvs [login aborted]: incorrect password
mira:~/cvs$
