Don't worry, fixed it... Copied /etc/postgresql/pg_hba.conf.dpkg-old over
/etc/postgresql/pg_hba.conf and everything started working... I'm a bit
confused as to why though, seeing as they both contain the same three
lines...

The first thing i notice is that the default port for postgres is wrong
unless you have changed it.

You have it looking -p 5431 instead of 5432.

As for the pg_hba.confcould you post it to the list so we can look at it.

Remove any security information that may be in the file about your system
:-)
