You can use Get External Data ==>New Database Query
in MS Excel to get the data directly in to Excel with ODBC link.

You can set the query to "refresh on open".
You can set the query to "don't change cell formats".

I think this is useful too..

There is a perl module Spreadsheet-WriteExcel for this purpose. In
combination with the DBI modules it is very easy to create any
excel sheets.

You may grab at the CPAN near you.
