First thought: Is the ipc-daemon running? Also are you trying to run it as a
service or just from the command line? How far do you get through startup?
If there is a file postmaster.pid in your PGDATA directory then it will
refuse to start, but should give an advisment of that fact.

Subject: [CYGWIN] postmaster will not start after reboot
I installed cygwin successfully on win2k machine. I did the initdb command,
and connected to the database on the next run. However, postmaster no longer
starts up. Is there something I'm missing? How do I fix it?
