Martín para estar a tono con la documentación de barman, el manual dice:

Los WAL no son en si un backup. Sin el basebackup no sirven para recuperar
nada en absoluto.
Un backup se considera valido (en general, pero para barman en particular
usando `barman check`) si está el basebackup completo y todos los WALs
generados desde el checkpoint inicial (cuando empieza el backup) hasta que
finaliza el backup (hay otro checkpoint en ese momento).
