Hi!

The web and sysadmin team have tentatively scheduled an upgrade of the
www.postgresql.org platform for this sunday, Nov 27th.

This change includes a complete rewrite of the underlying technology behind
the site, with the intention to make it more flexible to work with, and to
provide better services to users. It does not change the layout of the site
in any way.

The most visible things to users at this point is going to be that those
who submit news and events are now able to make smaller modifications to
them after they are submitted, and will be able to view which of their
events are in the pending moderation queue and such things. Submitted texts
will also no longer require/support HTML markup, but instead we will use a
simple markdown parser.

While we have done a fairly large amount of testing on the site, there are
likely to be a number of issues - since we simply don't have enough
resources to test everything. Because of this, please expect some hiccups
at the beginning of next week - and thanks for helping us test it :-) If
there are major issues, we will obviously roll back.

There are also a few things that need to be manually adjusted after the
migration, such as dealing with companies that are currently in our
database under several different names with just slightly different
spelling. This process is probably going to take a few days - please have
patience.

Any content (news, events, services etc) that is submitted to the current
site before the migration will be automatically migrated to the new one.

Anyway - there's your heads-up. If you notice issues after the migration,
you can find the web team hanging out in #postgresql on freenode - please
report your problems there, and we will try our hardest to get them solved
as quickly as possible.
