> *Key Accountabilities*

> - Ensure high volume transactional database availability and

> - Define database design and infrastructure standards in conjunction

> - Assume responsibility for database related problems; pursue root
> cause analysis and problem resolution
> - Optimize existing queries. Identify and tune slow queries to
> improve performance
> - Implement database best practices and research evolving database
> standards
> - Produce suitable documentation
> - Develop and implement appropriate monitoring and alerting scripts
> - Participate in code reviews and provide recommendations and guidance
> to developers about database matters
> - Writing custom reports to satisfy business stakeholders

> *Education and Experience*
>
> - 5+ years of progressive experience managing high volume
> transactional databases.
> - The candidate must possess the ability to work independently in a
> dynamic work environment.
> - We primarily run PostgreSQL but experience with any of the following
> will be acceptable:
> - PostgreSQL (preferred)
> - MySQL
> - Oracle
> - A good understanding of database replication architectures and
> processes
> - Systems administration experience in a Linux environment is required
> - Excellent SQL knowledge and ability
> - Experience writing stored procedures, views, partitioning, and
> triggers.
> - Must be available to work on-call after regular business hours
> (weekly rotation)
> - Excellent communications skills (verbal and written)
> - Development experience an asset (python, shell, php)
> - Experience with NoSQL (Riak, MongoDB,CouchDB) an asset
> - Computer Science or related degree, or equivalent combination of
> education and experience.
