This is with the MSI installer, right?
Try using .\user instead of servername\user. This apparantly does not
work on all OS versions, and I just can't remember which doesn't work,
but it's worth a try.
In general, try to fix your machine :) Having different netbios and DNS
names *will* give you problems, and not just with postgresql.
