Excessive margin for code in h2

Looking at the section title here:

..there is a 0.5em margin-left and margin-right on the words marked up with
<literal> tags, which in turn adds enough whitespace to make it look a
whitespace error (a space before the comma). Is there a case where we need
this margin or can it be tweaked to make titles like this one look better.
