Hi guys,
PGDay 2008 logistics organisation is going on ok, thanks to both
ITPUG and PostgreSQL Europe members. I was thinking of giving you a
quick update.
For those of you who are not aware, PGDay 2008 will take place in
Prato, Tuscany on the 17 and 18 of October 2008. Developers and
community members can use the spaces from the 16th of October. For more
information: www.pgday.it/en .
We would like to have more partners (or sponsors as you prefer) to
this important event, which would simplify our job a lot. I take the
chance to thank the companies that have already joined our advertising
campaign, and those who are in the process of joining it.
Let's not forget that our aim - for this year as well - is to keep it
free (I suppose things may change in the future because organising such
an event for free is not an easy task). So please, if you could
contribute even with a bronze partnership, that'd be great.
We have a deadline for gold sponsors up (regarding the logo on the
conference shirt) and bags conference partners. It is September 10.
That's the latest day for us to order the commemorative shirts and the
conference bags.
I have a few good news to give you.
First the program is on the way. Both Magnus and Luca are leading the
technical committees and in a few days we should have the official schedule.
Second: Magnus, Gianluca (Riccardi) and I are finishing the setup of
the online registration process. Maybe Magnus can give you an update. It
would be interesting if members of other languages could translate the
interface. But, once again, he will give you more details.
Third: Hotel San Marco is renting apartments for 4-5 people at
affordable rates as well. If you are not too fussy about sharing the
room with other PG people, just write me and we could try and get it
organised.
Fourth: We do have a developer room for us on the 16th of October, in
the afternoon. Let's make use of that.
Fifth: We have received a lot of offers for help. I thank you guys,
but unfortunately lots of things at the moment regard administrative
tasks - which involve pretty much ITPUG, as the formal and legal
organiser. However you can really help with a few things:
1) spreading the word
2) coming (possibly try an be here from the 16th morning at least)
3) helping setup the space and cleaning up (after the end of the event).
I hope that from now on we can regularly give you updates. I know we
should have been more active on this end, but this is volunteering
(although sometimes unfortunately it takes more time than the spare
time) and we are doing our best.
Take care.
Ciao,
Gabriele
