xTuple releases version 2.2 of OpenMFG and PostBooks

12,000 downloads in first month for Open Source ERP; New version adds over 150 features

NORFOLK, VA — September 6, 2007 — xTuple, the leader in open source enterprise resource planning software, announced the immediate availability of its PostBooks and OpenMFG ERP software, version 2.2. PostBooks is free and open source software, available at the SourceForge open source repository; OpenMFG is the commercially licensed version of the same software, which adds additional enterprise-class manufacturing and distribution functionality.

While PostBooks is brand new as a separate product, version 2.2, the seventh major release of OpenMFG in six years, includes a number of major enhancements to the core package:

• Support for pre-sales Opportunity Management in the CRM module, fully integrated with the universal Address Book of Contacts and Accounts, as well as To-Do Lists, Incident Management, and Project Management
• A robust application programming interface (API) to aid in integrating third-party applications with OpenMFG and PostBooks.
• Support for inter-warehouse Transfer Orders and associated reporting, a key feature for larger enterprises with geographically dispersed warehouses (OpenMFG only)
• A simple, intuitive, more customizable new menu system
• Over 150 other enhancements created by xTuple, its customers, partners, and other open source community members

Since the announcement of the PostBooks project just one month ago, the software has been downloaded over 12,000 times (http://sourceforge.net/projects/postbooks) Already, vibrant community discussions are underway around the potential for extending PostBooks into other vertical markets, translating the software into other languages (it is currently available in English, French, and Spanish), and migration tools from commercial packages such as QuickBooks, Peachtree, and Sage.

“We’re very gratified at the warm reception for PostBooks from the open source community,” said xTuple president and CEO Ned Lilly. “We look forward to continuing to grow the xTuple Applications with our customers, partners, and open source colleagues. We are particularly interested in developing partnerships in markets outside of North America to localize the software and bring the benefits of open source ERP to emerging markets.”

PostBooks and OpenMFG are advanced ERP software solutions built with open source components, such as the PostgreSQL database, the Qt toolkit for C++, and the OpenRPT report writer. The fully integrated packages include Inventory Management, Product Definition and Costing, Work Order Management, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Sales, Shipping and Receiving, Project Management, Sales Analysis, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, a full General Ledger, and Customer Relationship Management. Both packages are fully multi-currency, multi-lingual, and support a range of multi-layered taxation structures. The commercial OpenMFG product adds Manufacturing Scheduling, Capacity Planning, and several other advanced features.

PostBooks is available under the OSI-approved Common Public Attribution License (CPAL) free of charge. OpenMFG is available under xTuple’s innovative hybrid license, whereby customers and partners have full access to the application source code, and any enhancements made to the product flow back to xTuple for review, quality testing, and possible incorporation into the baseline product. xTuple customers frequently sponsor the development of new features under this model; the Transfer Order functionality new in version 2.2 is one example. Longtime xTuple customer Richart Distributors of Oklahoma City, working with local solution provider Xtreme Technologies, defined a general specification of the functionality it required, and xTuple led a community discussion around the design and implementation of the feature, drawing on the experience and best practices of dozens of ERP experts in the xTuple community. Commercial support for PostBooks is available from xTuple and its authorized solution providers around the world. OpenMFG is available under either an annual subscription or traditional perpetual license; the company publishes all its pricing at www.xtuple.com/pricing.
