Pentaho business intelligence announced that Mondrian 2.2 also contains
enhancements designed to improve performance and scalability across
various open source and proprietary databases and production
configurations. The software now offers improved handling of large
dimensions in Oracle databases as well as SQL optimizations for the
MySQL database. It also provides enhanced caching of data and metadata
to accelerate application performance when working with large data volumes.
It is no secret that work goes into playing the odds -- that's why most
open source software gets converted to windows, including postgresql.
Mysql, being the heavy weight in open source, gets the attention, but if
optimizations were made for postgresql and posted on postgresql.org,
this would garner lots of attention. Perhaps this role for advocacy
members is more forceful and positive for the future of postgresql than
being at every linuxworld. I know this goes against the grain, bsw! Michael
