I don't think that it worked then. Simple test:

CREATE FUNCTION session_update() RETURNS trigger AS '
BEGIN
-- Check date exists
IF NEW.stamp_lastupdate IS NULL THEN
NEW.stamp_lastupdate := ''now'';
END IF;
RETURN NEW;
END;
' LANGUAGE plpgsql;
