My understanding is that the current deal with the mirror site operators
is specifically "you host a mirror, you get a free banner ad". While
not all may be taking advantage of that, those who are might be pretty
annoyed to find the web team unilaterally renegotiating the deal :-(.
I'd suggest treading carefully in this area, and if possible leaving it
till after the new site design is up and running.
