I have to admit I thought Fujii was his last name, then I thought it was
his first name, now you are saying it is his last name. Obviously, I
am getting confused, and it does affect how I address him when I meet
him.

I think we are fine consistenly putting Japanese last names first _if_
we always capitalize the last name, e.g. "FUJITA Etsuro" --- is that a
good idea? Does everyone like that? Does any other country want that?
