Description:
Company has been building brand awareness using direct sales and partner relationships with HP, BMC and IBM, providing software and services to fortune 500. Products are used by the Fortune 500 and we have developed a hard-earned reputation for exceeding our client's expectations.

The company is experiencing growth of its on demand service and is seeking a PostgreSQL DBA with Linux chops. This team is responsible for implementing and managing all aspects of the customer-facing infrastructure in a high-performance production environment. This position is going to be part of the Dev/Ops division supporting the 24/7 On Demand communication platform.

Description:

Primary areas of responsibility will include:
- Working hand-in-hand with both the Development and Operations teams on all aspects of the hosted PostgreSQL architecture in an Agile fashion.
- Work closely with Development and Operations teams to develop and maintain stored procedures, compiled SQL, etc.
-Ensure that data access methods, database kernel patches, APIs, etc. are kept current.
- Assist in migrations from Oracle to PostgreSQL
- Assist and maintaining and evolving the clustered and highly available PostgreSQL architecture.
- Assist in evolving the PostgreSQL infrastructure to scale effortlessly through both cloud and premise architectures
- Author and maintain scripts to perform various aspects of administration. The DBA will document these scripts and maintain them in the source repository.
- Rotating 24x7 On-call support
- Create advanced monitoring and tuning scripts to ensure the databases are always running at the best performance possible.
- Provide recommendations and implement all best practices and tune according to the company’s application
- Ensure backups are taken and are valid across mulch-geographical regains
- Validate High Availability plan and perform regular DR testing.
- Perform Linux administration duties as needed.
- Develop and implement a plan/system/methodology to ensure maximum reliability and availability of database systems. Proactively monitor database system status, gathering performance metrics and making tuning and High Availability recommendations to determine early warning signs of problems and prevent issues from arising.

Qualifications / Necessary Skills:
• Knowledge of data relationships, data normalization
• Mastery of one or more of the following scripting languages: SQL, Perl, python, ruby, bash, C or other scripting language
• Understanding of Virtualization, LVM, SAN and RAID in relationship to PostgreSQL databases
• Cacti, Nagios, or other monitoring and metrics tools
• Ability to learn quickly and adapt to a fast paced growing and evolving service delivery system
• Ability to manage projects through their entire life cycle
• Excellent communication skills
