== PostgreSQL Weekly News - July 17 2006 ==
Bruce Momjian and Tom Lane cleaned up #includes in the source tree,
then cleaned up the clean-up.
We do not currently have enough reliable Windows machines in the
Buildfarm. If you have a windows server which could run PostgreSQL
builds at least every night for testing, please set it up and register
at www.pgbuildfarm.org. This is a great way to help move the
PostgreSQL forward.
Josh Berkus is purging /contrib of old projects which don't fit the
contrib criteria. Most are moving to pgFoundry but two are slated to
be discarded: "tips" and mSQL-interface. If anyone wants to take
over active maintenance of that code, speak up in the next few days or
find it in the FTP archives thereafter.
== Applied Patches ==
Jim Gates submitted a patch to fix Kerberos builds in Solaris 10/11.
Marko Kreen submitted a small cleanup fix to entab.
Kris Jurka fixed a bad patch to the 7.3 series' ltree module.
Kris Jurka and Tom Lane cleaned up compile issues introduced by
Bruce's attempt to standarize file headers.
Tom Lane fixed ALTER TYPE null-checking.
Marko Kreen submitted nine patches to update behaviour and library
references in pgcrypto.
David Fetter submitted a patch that lets psql's \df function show
input parameter names and OUT/INOUT parameters.
== Rejected Patches (for now) ==
Neil Conway submitted a patch to reduce the lock taken by CREATE
TRIGGER from AccessExclusiveLock to ExclusiveLock. Tom Lane rejected
it as unsafe.
== Pending Patches ==
ITAGAKI Takahiro submitted a per-page cleaner for B-Trees. Under
discussion.
Greg Stark submitted a patch to allow B-Tree indexing of TIDs. Patch
was OK, but Tom Lane questioned the utility of the feature. Magnus
Hagander submitted a patch to fix libpq_def on Windows.
Dave Page patched ipv6 libraries for Windows.
Charles Duffy offered a patch to allow interruption of long qsorts in
order to terminate runaway queries. This is still under active
disussion on -hackers.
Simon Riggs added restartable recovery to PITR.
Alvaro Herrera improved autovaccum by allowing safe parallel vacuuming
of different tables.
Zdenek Kotala submitted some regression tests for SET and RESET. Tom
Lane questioned the utility of the tests.
Greg Stark added the ability to build an index without doing an
exclusive lock on the indexed table. Issues currently being worked
out on -hackers.
Magnus Hagander re-implemented pg_regress in pure C.
Joachim Wieland normalized the Austrailian timezones.
Zdenek Kotala re-submitted his patch to allow re-commenting
postgresql.conf variables to reset them to default.
Josh Drake submitted several documentation patches.
Hiroshi Saito submitted a patch to fix building using Visual Studio on
Windows.
