Folks,
Half-time (roughly) DBA wanted for 2-3 month on-site assignment in downtown
San Francisco online gaming company, who have a postgresql-based application
2/3 built. Job will include:
DBA Tasks:
Development, implementation, testing and monitoring of redundancy plan
(replication and backup).
Installation and basic configuration of several PostgreSQL servers.
Work with Josh Berkus in implementing performance improvements.
Design Tasks (to support the Software Development Team):
Institution and enforcement of object naming conventions.
Database normalization.
Creation and alteration of database objects per spec of the development team.
Discovery and pruning of superfluous database objects.
Migration of stored procedures from PL/pgSQL to C.
The idea candidate should:
Have several years experience in database application design.
Know PL/pgSQL and PostgreSQL C Functions.
Be familiar with PostgreSQL 8.0, including some new features, like PITR and
Tablespaces.
Know Slony-I or Mammoth Replicator.
Familiarity with JDBC/Java is a nice bonus.
Compensation is slightly below experienced DBA scale, but minimum hours will
be guarenteed and payment will be prompt/immediate.
