Why would you expect that to work? An old pg_dump can't be expected to
understand system catalog changes that happened after it came out.

Going backwards is always going to cause problems, especially across
multiple releases --- there's a pretty large feature gap between 7.3
and 8.1. Why in the world would you want to, anyway?
