El punto es que puedes reservar Shared Memory del sistema y decirle a
postgresql que tome todo ese shared memory
asi la mayoria de las veces no tendra que ir al disco a swapear y por
consiguiente sera mas rapido
si tienes 1GB de ram
ponle de Shared memory al kernel unos 750MB y configura el postgresql
para que tome esos 750 MB
y los 250 restantes serian para el sistema
con esto una buena parte de los datos estarian en memoria haciendo los
procesos mas rapidos.
