OK! Postea las partes relevantes de tu postgresql.conf.
Haz lo siguiente,
# service postgrsql status
Si te dice que esta ejecutandose fijate en el PID que te muestra.
Luego haz un cat /var/lib/pgsql/data/postmaster.pid
Si coincide con el PID que arrojo el status (en caso de que se este
ejecutando), entonces debes de tener alguna falla en tu postgresql.conf.
Sino, borra el postmaster.pid y ejecuta el service postgrsql start.
