Very large caches (was Re: 7.3.1 New install, large queries are slow)

So if I have some honking "big" Compaq Xeon SMP server w/ 16GB RAM,
and top(1) shows that there is 8GB of buffers, then Pg will be happy
as a pig in the mud?
