RedHat 7.1 is a substantial upgrade for more than one reason. Performance is
better, and stability (at least for me) has been just as good.

Well, first, 7.1rc1 is old. The official 7.1 release is available, as is
7.1.1 in /pub/binary/v7.1.1/RPMS/redhat-6.2 on the ftp.postgresql.org mirror
near you.

Next, is there an existing PostgreSQL 6.5.3 install still on your 6.2 box?
If so, you'll need to issue to upgrade with all existing RPM's listed on one
rpm command line -- and you will need to add the package postgresql-libs to
the list. If that fails for some reason, please post (to the pgsql-ports
list) the resulting dependency failures.

The dependencies are there for a reason. But without details of what they
were, I cannot further advise.
